The Merwe-Vierhavens area (M4H) is the incubator, testing ground and leading example of the circular economy of the future. Innovation also flows through our veins and brew kettles. Sustainability is an essential element in our operations, our (brewing) processes and, of course, in our menu.
As a brewery, we want to be at the forefront of sustainability. Therefore, we use only state-of-the-art techniques that waste as little water and energy as possible.
DO YOU WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT SUSTAINABILITY?
With these five 'ingrediënts', we brew Rotterdam's most sustainable beer:

Our state-of-the-art brewery- supplied by German company BrauKon - boasts all kinds of sustainable features. For example, the heat released from the cooling water is reused as preheated brewing water.
Brewers spent grain is a valuable and nutritious by-product which is high in protein. The nearby Floating Farm uses it as fodder for their cows. Because of this addition to their diet, the cows produce about 2.5 litres of extra milk per cow per day! Next to that, Jordy's Bakery also incorporates it into its famous bostelbrood ( Brewers spent grain bread), which can also be found on our menu.

On our roof you will find around 1,400 solar panels, producing a total of 400,000 kWh per year. We capture more than we (re)use. What we do whith this surplus? Read about it in 'e-scooter batteries'.

Second life for e-scooter batteries
In cooperation with Stored Energy, we build a large battery from discarded e-scooter batteries. These batteries store the surplus energy, which we can then use to run our tap systems and lighting again.

Brewing with treated wastewater
Rainmakers, our innovative neighbouring company, gained fame by distilling water from the air and purifying seawater. As part of a pilot project, Rainmakers collects our wastewater to be purified and reused as brewing water.
